How the calculation works

A trip's fuel cost depends on three things: distance, the car's economy and the price per liter.

liters = distance ÷ economy (km/l)

cost = liters × price per liter

Step-by-step example

600 km trip, car doing 12 km/l, gasoline at R$5.50:

  • Liters: 600 ÷ 12 = 50 liters
  • Cost: 50 × 5.50 = R$275 (one way)

Don't forget the return and the split

For a round trip, double the distance. Traveling with friends, divide by the number of people — the fair way to split gas.

Examples

  • 300 km at 10 km/l, R$6/L: 30 L × 6 = R$180.
  • A 600 km round trip with 4 people: R$550 ÷ 4 ≈ R$138 each.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know my car mileage?

Divide km driven by liters from the last tank, or check the trip computer.

Does it include tolls and parking?

No — fuel only. Add tolls, parking and meals separately for the full trip cost.

City or highway economy?

For a trip, use the highway figure (higher) — it better reflects steady highway speed.
