How the calculation works
Area is a measure of surface, always "squared". The conversion goes through the square meter (m²).
Key equivalences
- 1 m² = 10,000 cm² · 1 km² = 1,000,000 m²
- 1 hectare = 10,000 m² (a 100 × 100 m square)
- 1 acre = 4,046.86 m² ≈ 0.405 ha
- 1 m² = 10.764 ft²
Careful: squared factors
Since area is length squared, the factors are squared too. 1 m = 100 cm, but 1 m² = 100² = 10,000 cm².

A 2-hectare lot is 2 × 10,000 = 20,000 m², about 4.94 acres.
